Protocol for the Initial Treatment of Surfaces Due to the Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2/ COVID-19
The following protocol is for the initial treatment of facilities. The procedures are intended as an initial response to treating areas and surfaces that have been exposed to Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19.
REGULATIONS, CODES AND STANDARDS
The contractor shall comply with applicable regulations, codes and standards. These shall include, but are not limited to:
OSHA: 29 CFR 1910 Subpart I -Personal Protective Equipment, U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration OSHA: 29 CFR 1910.134 -Respiratory Protection Standard, U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration OSHA : General Duty Clause, Section S(a){l) of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration {OSHA)Act of 1970, 29 USC 654{a){ ) OSHA : 29 CFR 1910.1030 – Bloodborne Pathogens standard
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
The following minimum personal protective equipment shall be used:
01. Full body disposable coveralls shall be worn. All coveralls shall be impermeable and cover the body, feet and head.
02. Disposable powder free nitrile gloves. The disposal gloves shall be fitted over the coveralls and then sealed to the suit with an adhesive tape.
03. Full face respiratory protection fitted with N-95 or greater prefilter and Chemical (VOC) filter combination cassettes. The respirator shall be sealed to the coveralls using adhesive tape where the respirator and filter meet. An alternative is to utilize half face respirators fitted with N- 95 or greater and Chemical filter combination cassettes and goggles and a covering face shield.
Treatment Procedures
The following treatment products and procedures shall be used:
01. The treatment procedures should be completed by workers trained in proper procedures for PPE use, including donning and doffing of PPE, and the importance of hand hygiene.
02. Using disposable towels, damp wipe common surfaces utilizing a detergent solution registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that is effective against the Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 / COVID19 and contained on the EPA N-List. (*)
Cleaning of surfaces is conducted in a single direction to reduce reapplication of soil on surfaces. Change towel often and dispose in 3 mil trash bag.
The minimum common surfaces that should be cleaned are the following:
The cleaning procedures are meant to clean frequently touched and soiled surfaces prior to the application of a disinfectant solution.
03. After the completion of the cleaning of frequently touched and soiled surfaces by wiping, apply a solution that is EPA registered as a broad spectrum disinfectant effective against the Coronavirus SARS-CoV- 2/COVID-19.
Throughout the room apply the disinfectant using equipment as specified on the products label. The application should start at the bottom of the walls working to the top of the walls and across the room contents and the floor area. Using a back and forth steady motion apply the disinfectant so that it covers the surfaces without saturating or causing runoff. The disinfectant should remain wet the required dwell time, as specified on product label.
04. Collect all discarded towels and seal trash bag with tape. Remove PPE and discard in trash bag and seal for disposal.
